When he arrived at his wife’s parental home in a Faridabad residential area, he was allegedly intoxicated and became violent, officials from the police said. He insisted that his wife come home with him.
But the woman refused to accompany him because of poverty and ongoing disputes in their marriage, according to reports. The refusal is said to have infuriated the man, prompting a fierce argument that erupted between him and members of his wife’s family.
In the course of fighting, the accused lifted an axe and attacked his father-in-law, who tried to intervene and protect her daughter.
Victim Dies at Hospital
The initial attack critically injured the victim. Family members and neighbors took him to a local hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead later due to excessive loss of blood.
According to the police, the victim was in his late 50s and had tried to de-escalate the matter before the accused suddenly turned violent.
Accused Arrested
On receiving information about the attack, police teams reached the spot immediately. The suspect was arrested soon after, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered.
A senior police officer said a murder case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the law.
“During the preliminary course of investigation, it appears that the accused was in an intoxicated state at the time of the attack. We’re questioning him and taking witness statements,” the officer said.
Domestic Dispute Behind the Crime
Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been undergoing marital problems for quite some time. The wife had allegedly been living at her parents’ house for weeks leading up to the fire, according to reports.
The argument turned violent when her husband came to the house and demanded she go home with him.
Community Shocked
Neighboring residents described shock at the violent attack, saying the family was known to be peaceful and had never had any serious disputes previously. Police have dispatched the victim’s body for autopsy, while the investigation is in progress.
